Sun Microsystems To Be Acquired by Oracle

Yep, that Sun Microsystems. The folks that bring you the Java platform, the Solaris operating system, MySQL, OpenOffice, and VirtualBox. It was announced Monday April 20th, 2009 that Oracle would acquire Sun for $7.4 billion.

I’m still trying to figure out the implications this could have for the computer world. It will be interesting to see what changes and what stays the same. This could serve as a huge opportunity for Oracle to consolidate its power. But with all of the systems currently using Sun’s software, my thought is that everything will mostly stay the same. I’d like to invite all of those with and ideas to comment their opinions and observations.

Happily using the Microsoft .NET platform,

Jack

I wonder how many more of these buy-outs will occur in the coming months with the economy heading down the drain.
Maybe Apple will buy out Microsoft. :p
